Bahamas Investments
A large bulk of the investments pie in the Bahamas is represented by financial services and tourism. The archipelago remains an attractive spot for investors largely because of its tax-free environment and a wide range of investment incentive. These include tax exemptions from personal and corporate income, early transmittal of business profits to the main headquarters, and for certain nationalities, privileges under international investment codes where Bahamas is a signatory. These conducive business climate coupled with its proximity to the United States and a generally stable government increases investor confidence for the archipelago. More importantly, Bahamas' pool of highly skilled professionals enable investors to build long-term presence and thus, project continuous expansion and growth.
The government has adopted the National Strategy for Investments aimed at maximizing the effort in generating local and international investors especially in other areas like land development and real estate. Measures include a more expedient business application and approval process and maintaining its competitive edge like the tax incentives. Likewise, the government has mandated its business agencies to implement and propagate a core operating principle – provision of value-for-money business costs alongside high quality service that will sustain and support the archipelago's service-based economy.
While some unique businesses are reserved for locales like non-specialty restaurants, some retail and construction projects, majority of investments are open to international investors, including joint-ventures with Bahamians. At present, the government is also largely encouraging interest in industrial as well as agricultural projects aimed at benefiting local employment especially its pool of skilled workers.
